Art

Look what I just bought!

London is one of my favorite cities, so I couldn't resist this adorable print. I love the red umbrellas.
I can't wait to have a place all to myself so I can decorate it with art that I love. I'm big on having unique and beautiful pieces on my walls.
My favorite artist of the moment is Casey O'Connell. I enjoy her use of color and just her overall style. This painting of hers is my current obession and I would loooove to hang it up somewhere. The rest of her stuff is incredible, so you should definitely check it out.

It's a brunette and a ginger!
Gah I love art.

Blaaaaaaaaaaaack Darknessss!

Because it's Friday, here is a hilarious video. Probably one of the funniest I've seen in a while. Enjoy!

Snow bunny

Hitting the slopes. Fresh powder. Snow plow. Gnarly. Ok, maybe not gnarly.
All of this can only mean one thing: ski trip.
In about 2.5 weeks I will be partaking in this time-honored tradition.
Did you know how common it is for an American family to take a ski trip, or multiple ones at that? I didn't. In fact, I ever realized exactly how popular skiing was until I went to A&M. It seemed like everyone's family took skiing trips semi-regularly. Not to be left out of this group is the boyfriend and his family.
I, on the other hand, am not a part of this group. I'm pretty sure neither of my parents has ever been skiing in their life.
My sister and her husband lived in Sweden for a while, so I was lucky enough to visit them and ski there...when I was 10. That's the last time I went skiing. Therefore, my upcoming trip should be quite the adventure.

Steamboat Springs, CO, our skiing destination.

With all my skiing expertise, this is surely what I'll be doing. Winter Olympics 2014, here I come!

I'm calling to schedule myself a ski lesson.
Right now.

Listen Now!

I'm going to Austin tonight to see Balmorhea, the band my dear friend Aisha is in. They are pretty awesome so you should check them out on itunes and buy their newest album. This is my favorite song by them, called "Settler." Enjoy!

I am coveting this

Dear Anthropologie,
You make the sweetest dresses (and skirts, shirts, jackets, accessories, homewares) . Why must you be so out of my budget? I think you are here to torture me and force me to covet.
Love, Alex

Holy Music

Let it be known: The Vatican has released its chioces for the ten best albums of all time. I don't know about you, but when I think about authorities on music, The Vatican is definitely foremost in my mind. However, regardless of how odd it may seem that somewhere there is a committee in the Vatican who spends their time ranking music, I do agree with their top choice. It's pleasing to know that the Holy See enjoys the Beatles as much as I do. I may not see eye to eye with the Church on many issues, but this is something the Pope and I can shake hands about.
Can you imagine him singing along to "Yellow Submarine?"
Rounding out the list were:
  • Pink Floyd- The Dark Side of the Moon
  • Oasis- (What's the Story) Morning Glory
  • Michael Jackson- Thriller
  • U2- Achtung Baby
  • Fleetwood Mac- Rumours
  • Donald Fagen- The Nightfly
  • Carlos Santana- Supernatural
  • Paul Simon- Graceland
  • David Crosby-If I Could Only Remember my Name

In the past, the Vatican also created an official playlist. I am not lying when I say that it includes Muse, Fleet Foxes, and...wait for it...Tupac. Listen to it here.

New York, I love you

I've never been a Texas girl, even though I was born and raised here. I like to think that New York City captured my heart on my first trip there, when I was only 10 months old. I've been back several times since and I hold to the fact that it is the greatest city on earth. Hands down. It is the epicenter of culture, art, entertainment, and LIFE. I've really been itching to go there these past couple of weeks, probably because of this blog and this one too. (Both awesome ladies who I'd love to be more like).

Here are just a few of the reasons why I love NYC:

Frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity 3. Ice creamy hot chocolate? Yes, please.

Cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery. As a lover of basically every cupcake I have ever eaten, this place is heaven. The one in the West Village is the best.

The Met. I could spend hours just wandering around amidst the priceless pieces of art.

Central Park. Not just your average park. I mean hey, there's a zoo in it. And this adorable little duck.

The subway system. It's cheap and easy. And plus, when it's empty there are lots of places to run around and dance.

Rice to Riches. If the name isn't clear enough, they sell nothing but gourmet rice pudding. It's probably one of the best places in the world. This is cheesecake flavor, I believe. I'm sure there is more than one location, but the one I know of is on Spring St. between Mulberry and Mott.

Lombardi's Pizza, conveniently located across the street from Rice to Riches. They boast being voted the best pizza in NYC. It is certainly delicious, but my favorite is Grimaldi's in Brooklyn.

Yes, many of my featured favorite things are food. I love food. This is no secret. If I lived in NYC I'd probably weigh 500 pounds. I don't even think all the walking would counteract the food intake. Regardless, I love this city with a passion.

Sometimes I wish I'd just grow balls and move there.

Hi

I want to make my blog pretty. I'm desperately seeking a very simple, three-column layout. I'm terrible with anything remotely html so I have been avoiding my blog until I can figure out how to make it look exactly as I'd like it to.

Besides, nothing interesting has happened anyway.

Rain

When this weather is what I've been dealing with for the past week (my first week of work, no less), it makes me want to be...

...here.
Cinque Terre (this happens to be a picture of Vernazza). Breathtaking scenery, gorgeous weather; time seems to stand still in the lazy villages.

I've been feeling very antsy lately. I want to get out and do something. I want to go somewhere.
Trust me, I'm thankful to finally have a job. But where's the adventure I was supposed to be having?
